ELTR has became since 1993, a service of the European Liver and Intestine Transplant Association (ELITA).

The European Liver and Intestine Transplant Association (ELITA) is a section of the European Society of Organ Transplantation (ESOT), founded in 1993 in RHODES. The Association is incorporated as European Liver and Intestinal Transplant Association under the law of the British Virgin Islands.

The purposes for which the Association is established are as follows :

-  To provide a forum for those working in the field of liver transplantation to exchange scientific information and views related primarily to providing the best service for patients in Europe requiring liver transplantation. Thus science, training, organ sharing and distribution, co-operative research projects, especially of clinical nature and the European Liver Transplant Registry are the main concerns.
-  To facilitate discussions and relationships with national and European government agencies and with the organ exchange as the official representative body of liver transplanters in Europe.
